I was navigating the Old Quarter of Hanoi, feeling a bit overwhelmed and honestly, a little lost—both on the street and in life. I stopped at a quiet café and struck up a conversation with the only other customer: an older woman from New Zealand who had spent decades teaching in developing countries. We talked for hours.

What stuck with me wasn’t just her stories of travel or teaching—it was her attitude. She told me, “Curiosity is the best compass. It won’t always lead you where you expected, but it will never leave you stuck.” That sentence became a sort of personal mantra for me.

She reminded me that it’s okay not to have all the answers, that growth comes from movement—even small, imperfect steps. That conversation helped me let go of the pressure to “figure it all out” and focus instead on enjoying the process of discovery, both in travel and in life.
